Bessies Blanket/Afghan (PDF Crochet Pattern)

Bessie's blanket is a variation of the traditional granny square blanket
 
It was inspired by my granny, who died at the age of 94 and was still knitting and crocheting blankets almost up until the day she died. Her blankets were all carried to the local Oxfam shop where she hoped they would be sent to war and famine torn countries.  She watched the news avidly hoping to see a starving orphan cuddled and comforted in one of her blankets. I don't think she ever did, but I like to think somewhere in the world there are people who were indirectly comforted by my granny.
 
You will need
Yarn :
23 skeins of The Natural Dye Studio’s Dazzle DK  100% British Blue Faced Leicester.
 
 
Hook:
Crochet hook size 4.5 mm or size needed to gain correct tension.
A blocked square motif should measure 6”.
 
The blanket in the photograph is king sized bed size and measures approximately 78  x 78 inches,
There are 144 motifs in total, 12 rows x 12 columns.
Bessie can be made any size you wish by altering the number of columns and rows.
